Winter Weary

By: On: February 28, 2009 at 11:10 pm

Winter in all it’s glory has stayed too long.

Now it’s time for winter to run along.

I’ve felt enough of the cold, cold air.

I’ve seen enough of the icy and snow.

I’m ready for the spring to blossom.

A Cloud in the Sky

Looking south in the bay towards Lubec and Campobello Island there were some beautiful clouds in the sky this past Monday:

Everyday the pallette of the sky changes here in Eastport. From brilliant blues to cool greys and lavendars, it’s such a delight even on the coldest of days.

I’m about at the end of my first winter here in my new home. Spring is around the corner, so I hear… But more snow is headed this way tomorrow. I think I’ll spend the day tomorrow planning my first garden here so I am ready to plant when the time comes.

It’s raining today. It would be wonderful if the rain washed all the snow away. I know… I’m dreaming.

When Darkness Falls

When darkness falls
And the night is still,
I think of the lonely Whippoorwill
Who calls his name out
To the night
Like longing plea to end his plight.
Yet, who’s to say his cry be right
For he alone does know his cry,
What voice he speak
I only can try,
To listen deeply in the still
To know what be the Mighty will.
And yet I long to hear
His mournful plea,
To answer yet the plea
Of mine own heart
When darkness falls
And the night is still
I think of the lonely Whippoorwill.

Oh Deer

By: On: February 8, 2009 at 5:34 pm

Among the many reasons I moved to Eastport, Maine after living in Los Angeles for nearly 19 years, was the longing to be in a more rural environment. I tired of the big city, with the traffic and the noise.

A few days ago while on my way home from the grocery store, there were about 8 deer feeding on the side of the road. After sitting in the car with my daughter, Juliet, for a while watching them, I decided to drive home to get my camera. By the time we got back the deer were on the move, scared off by a big rig passing by and a woman walking a dog.

We drove around for a bit, took a few photos of the sky, which is always colorful here and low and behold the deer returned and started making their way across the street:

Winter Sky

By: On: February 4, 2009 at 7:43 pm

After posting earlier today about muddling through my first Eastport, Maine winter I decided I needed to get out and take a little walk to catch a glimpse of the water before the sunset.

Camera in hand, I took a few photos:
