Musings: The Elusive Red Bird

Musings from my nature writing journal…

A cardinal flew across the road today as I was walking. It darted out from the trees and made a quick trajectory to the other side of the road, flashing its brilliant scarlet-feathered figure in a swift streak before my eyes. I became transfixed upon the stand of trees and brush that the cardinal had descended into, managing somehow despite its brilliant color to blend in to the colorful fall foliage. There it sat hidden in nature’s camouflage. And, I waited, patiently and quietly for him to emerge, ever peering deeper into the wood to catch a glimpse of him fluttering from limb to limb. (more…)

Daily Affirmations: Procrastination

Today, I will set a new course in my life and begin to make changes to when and how I do things that need to get done. I often procrastinate, wait until the last moment and this causes unnecessary stress on me. Instead of getting things done, I worry myself thinking about the fact that I have a list of things to do. Today, I will start with my list of things to do and get them done, one by one. There is nothing healthy or productive about procrastination. I affirm to release procrastination from my life, today and everyday, as I walk my daily path.

Food For Thought: Moving On

I had had my heart set for a few months now to move to a new apartment. I had two criteria that mattered most, after living in a downtown apartment with no yard or view. I was looking for “a place with a yard’ and “a room with a view.” Quietly, I set my intent out into the Universe and the Universe answered at exactly the right time. I’m moving on… The view and the yard are awesome. It is time for a change and I am so ready for it.

Moving is a wonderful thing because it opens the channels to new energy. The moment I stepped out of my car at my new place I felt like I was home. And I walked across the threshold of the back door, into the old mud room, I knew I was home. And then I say the view from the living room, and walked up the stairs to take in the view from the front bedroom. Ah… There’s no place like home. I had found my new home.  (more…)

Reflections: Life is a Journey

I think a lot about traveling these days, but time and money are not easily accessible at this time. So instead, I spend my time traveling the places I would like to visit through my daydreams. I imagine I am walking the green hills of Ireland, or standing on the rocky cliffs watching the blue ocean waves roll gently to the shore.

Reflections: Changing Tides

I’ve always been partial to the low tide at the beach, for when the ocean recedes for a few hours twice daily for the low tide exposes an expansive beach that becomes a playground of earthly and aquatic delights. The landscape changes, tidal pools form, and a treasure trove of shells, stones, beach glass worn smooth, drift wood, sea weed and other offerings from the ocean appear on the sand, waiting patiently to be claimed once again by the sea, or to be pocketed by a beachcomber who will revere that object with special memories for a long time to come.

Reflections: Gratitude for Life

White Peony ~ c. Pamela J. Leavey

Every flower is the perfect reflection of petals of life that unfold on our journey. Nature holds so many lessons for the enquiring mind as we move through our lives. As we take time to appreciate nature, we are in fact taking time to appreciate ourselves and give up our striving, even for a short time, in effort to be one with all of the abundance around us. To walk in nature is to walk in gratitude for life.
