Inside Llewyn Davis on the Top of My Holiday Movie List

Inside Llweyn Davis, the new film by the Coen Brothers has been on the top of my must see movie list for a few weeks now. The radio station I listen to, WUMB, has been playing quite a few cuts from the soundtrack and the music has definitely sparked my interest in the film.

Apparently A.O. Scott of the NY Times feels Inside Llewyn Davis is also a must see movie for 2013:

The musical performances — especially from Oscar Isaac, who plays the title character — are hauntingly lovely, and they anchor Joel and Ethan Coen’s exploration, at once mordant and melancholy, of the early-’60s New York folk scene. A ballad of bad luck and squandered talent that already seems, like the music it celebrates, to have been around forever.

Inside Llewyn Davis is based on the Greenwich Village Folk scene of 1961 and loosely derived from Dave Van Ronk’s memiour: The Mayor of MacDougal Street. Read more about the film here.

Daily Affirmations: Acceptance

Today, I re-mind myself that acceptance is key to living in peace and harmony with everyone and everything. To achieve acceptance is not always easy, it takes practice — everyday practice. However, I know that with practice and patience I can put away my judgments and achieve acceptance.

Life Is A Journey

Life is a journey. We never know where it will lead us, the destination is always unknown.

We can choose to see this journey as an adventure and rise and flow with the good and the bad, or we can stay stuck driving around the roundabout, spinning our wheels in instead of going with the flow of the journey.

When we grasp the life is an adventure mindset, we open our wings and begin to fly. It is in fact in this mindset that we soar to our greatest possibilities in life.

Nelson Mandela Dies at 95

The world lost a great citizen today… Nelson Mandela passed away today, he was 95. Mandela was a “freedom fighter, statesman, moral compass and South Africa’s symbol of the struggle against racial oppression,” who “emerged from prison after 27 years to lead his country out of decades of apartheid.”

U2 recently released this video for the film “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”:

Watch the trailer for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

The world mourns a very bright light that will shine forever in the heavens…

Why I Won’t Buy Cynthia Rowley Clothing at Marshalls

I posted last week about a purchase of Cyntha Rowley pajamas that I made a few weeks ago at Marshalls in Newburyport. The black pajamas had so much dye in them that even after multiple washes, the pajamas stained two sets of cotton damask sheets and a pink fleece bathrobe.

I had commented on Cynthia Rowley’s FaceBook page and yesterday I got a reply:

Hi Pamela. Please contact ecommerce@cynthiarowley.com so we can get more information on your purchase. Thank you.

I was heartened that Cynthia Rowley (company) had replied and felt there might be something done about the situation, as Marshalls will not accept returns on worn pajamas. I emailed ecommerce@cynthiarowley.com with an explanation of what happened and the photo of my badly stained pink bathrobe with the pajamas. Here’s the email response I received:

I’m very sorry to hear about what happened with your purchase. For items like these pyjamas, Marshall’s own factories are the ones that produces these so we recommend you contact Marshall’s. I’m sorry I cannot help further: http://www1.marshallsonline.com/tjx/customer-service.asp

This certainly isn’t the response I was expecting. In fact it is more than a little disconcerting to know that a well known fashion label such as Cynthia Rowley allows a large discount chain store company like Marshalls to manufacture under their label with no oversight to the quality of goods.

Which leads to the next question… I’ve bought other Cynthia Rowley fashion and home goods at Marshalls over the past couple of years. Who manufacturing the merchandise? Cynthia Rowley or Marshalls?

Regardless… a $24.99 purchase ruined approximately $200 of personal goods. I’ll never buy Cynthia Rowley at Marshalls again. I may just never buy Cynthia Rowley merchandise anywhere, if their label is farmed out to discount stores.
