Snowy Owls Are Back At the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge
December 3, 2014
Snowy Owls are back for the winter at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island in the coastal Newburyport, Massachusetts area. I haven’t had the pleasure of seeing my first Snowy Owl the year yet this season, but starting next week when I am finished with my Fall 2014 classes at UMass Amherst’s UWW, I’ll be heading to the Refuge in search of these majestic beauties. Nothing spells rest and relaxation for me more than time outdoors in every season, enjoying the diverse wildlife at my beloved Refuge.
The photo above was taken at the Newbury Salt Marsh, just outside of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, in December 2013.
Here we see the Snowy Owl pictured above on a utility pole, after he decided to abandon the haystack for a higher perspective.
Photographers of all ilks, amateur to professional have been flocking to Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in hopes to get that perfect, one of a kind shot of the beautiful Snowy Owls. This amateur photographer will be joining the throng soon in hopes of capturing a one of a kind photograph of my own soon.
All About Birds has more information on the “regal snowy owl” here.
Please remember if you are heading to the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge in search of the Snowy Owl, to stay on the paths and boardwalks and out of the areas designated “no entry” by the USFWS. These beautiful birds need their space just like humans do.
