Breaking A Long Spell of Writer’s Block

Greetings of the Day to All…

I’ve been working on breaking a long spell of writer’s block, that has quite frankly, gone on too long. Writing here on a more regular basis has been very helpful and I’m starting to feel accountable to showing up and writing something, anything on this page. The fact is, I’ve got a lot of things to write about and right now that seems more appealing than working on memoir and personal essay revision.

So, I’m a mission to shake off my writer’s block and I hope you’ll join me on my journey as I poke about for interesting things to write about and maybe bring back an old popular topic here, Daily Affirmations.

Life is a path. It’s a metaphor I use often because I am a walker, and over the years I’ve recognized the changes in my life are shifts in the path. One year into the COVID pandemic, I shifting my path. I am not sure where it will lead me. Time, non-existent time, will tell.

Daylight Savings Time

Greetings of the Day Everyone… Due to the wonders of Daylight Savings Time, we all lost an hour of sleep last night. I find myself sleeping much more in recent weeks due pandemic fatigue. So rather than set the alarm, which I actually don’t use, I slept in. Didn’t miss out on my requisite 8 1/2 hours of sleep, but I did miss some sunshine.

However, I am grateful for the longer days and warmer weather to come over the next few months. Everyday in the past week or so, I feel my hope growing, after this long unprecedented year, this terrible pandemic, that has changed the world and all of our lives in so many ways. Despite my hope, I will still continue to mask up and stay safe. I hope you all will too. We’re still in uncharted territory and many states are already lifting restrictions. I will continue to follow what I feel is comfortable for me, including keeping a 6 ft. distance from strangers, and shopping in stores that aren’t busy.

I wish you all a blessed day filled with hope. May you all be kind to one another and find joy in the little things.

Morning Routines

Good Morning Everyone… I’m a creature of habit and in the past couple of weeks, instead of sitting with my coffee in front of the computer, I’ve been up and about doing busy things in the morning. That said, I’ve been getting later with my morning greetings or missing doing them altogether.

I find after a couple of weeks, I like my morning routine but I think it needs some readjusting. I miss sending out my morning missives.

I wish you all a bright and cheery day. Spring is on the way. Hope grows daily. Blessed be… 💙

Spread Hope Around

Good Morning Everyone! Another bright, sunny warm day today. It certainly is uplifting after the long, sad and dreary winter we’ve all had due to the pandemic.

There is definitely hope in the air in the past few days. Today, I’m going to take that hope that I feel in my heart, and spread it around. I hope you all do too. Love and kindness have held us all together in the past year. Though we’re still going to have to adhere to COVID safety protocols in public, even after we’ve been vaccinated, it’s okay, friends… We’ve got this. Look how far we’ve come through this difficult year. Keep spreading kindness friends, as though you are spreading seeds in a garden.

Kitchen Orchids

I’ve been collecting and growing orchids for a few years now. I seem to have a 50/50 success rate with getting them to bloom again. These two are bloom right now in my kitchen. The larger white with fuchsia spots is a Polka Dot Phalaenopsis, it re-bloomed from last year. Success!

Orchids can be a little temperamental. They require just the right amount of light, food, and water to bloom. A bit like people. I keep my orchids in a south window and I adjust the light when the sun is too strong using a combination of mini-blinds and sheer curtains. I water every other week with ice cubes and on alternate weeks I use Espoma Organic Orchid Food.

I have five other orchids plants on my orchid shelf right now that I am hoping will all rebloom. Like all things in life, time will tell.

The Earth Begins to Wake from Her Winter Slumber

Good Morning Everyone… The snow is starting to melt in my yard. I do hope that it is the end of it for this winter. As the snow melts, my flowerbeds are being revealed and I am so curious to see what perennials return this year. I only planted a few, so we shall see. Last spring was my first gardening attempt where I live. It was totally motivated by the pandemic and it brought me so much joy from spring through the fall.

I ended the gardening season last fall, planting about 100 bulbs, an assortment of crocus, daffodils and tulips. I dug a new bed for all the bulbs and threw in some lupine and lily seeds as well. Needless to say I can’t wait to see what starts to emerge from the ground as the days grow warmer and longer and the earth begins to wake from her winter slumber.

I feel as though I am the Earth waking from a winter slumber. As the days grow longer I grow stronger. What a year this has been… So much to take in and process. Life has changed. We are adapting. Stay strong dear ones, we will all emerge like the flowers of spring.
