Hozier was on the Today Show this morning performing his breakout hit Take Me To Church and his new single, From Eden, both from his self titled debut CD, Hozier. As noted in the interview before his performance of From Eden, Hozier is indeed, “a tall drink of water.” Watch here:

I’ve been struggling with some nagging self-doubt… This is a great reminder. We all need re-minding that we can do anything we set our minds to. Self-doubt can be a healthy way to look critically at things in our life. Wallowing in self-doubt however is not at all productive.
Today, I re-mind myself when I “believe” that I “can do it,” I set that wheels into motion to make that happen. Intent makes manifest.
I spend an inordinate amount of time online. With four websites and long time social media presence, I’ve come to know a lot of people over the many years I have been online. Many of my online friendships have actually manifested into offline friendships as well. The fact is, the opportunity to meet like-minded people online is exponentially wider than it is in the average person’s offline life.
I enjoy the fact that I can meet and learn from people all over the country, let alone the world. I value the friendships I have made online. I enjoy sharing information, discussion and sometimes debate with these friends on a multitude of topics.
I have been going through a lot of changes in my life over the past couple of years, and now I find myself often questioning who I am. As the old me falls away and I am evolving, yet again, I am looking at my past for clues. I’ve missed some opportunities in my life, that I sometimes regret… Haven’t we all?
Today I re-mind myself that everything has a time in our lives, and a missed opportunity will often rise again in another form. Life is what we make of it, each and every day. I am here to make this day matter. I am here today to grasp the opportunities that come my way and make the most of them. I am the person who can change my life.
Hozier’s guitar picking style on “To Be Alone” is quite reminiscent of the late blues great, John Lee Hooker, who is a favorite of mine, and said to be one of Hozier’s influences in his unique sound and style. Check out this version of “To Be Alone“, “live in Kilkenny”:
I’m hooked on Hozier… There are times that I can’t get enough listening in. You know that feeling you get when you play the same song over and over again until it permeates your very being. I’m there. Stuck tonight on “To Be Alone.”
Hozier’s lyrics hover on the edge of poetic genius singed by the flames of passion, somewhere between the edge of darkness and light. Brilliant stuff… Every song on his CD, Hozier, is a journey into thoughtful contemplation mixed often joyful song. There is no other way to describe the dichotomy of Hozier’s brilliance, in my opinion. (more…)
Sometimes our hearts and our minds are like a cloudy sky blocking the sunshine from our lives. We’ve struggled, we’ve suffered loss, we’ve been weighted down by sadness and grief. We wait patiently the skies to open, showing the reward of the dazzling sun.
Today I re-mind myself that every little ray of light that passes through my heart and mind, creates a fertile ground for inner peace and happiness. It may be cloudy outside, but I can make the sun shine in my heart and mind, by simply choosing to give joy a space in my life today.
Namaste… Pamela
