Like A Piece Of Discarded Trash

When our hearts have been broken, we feel so alone, like the solitary swan pictured below, or worse, like a piece of discarded trash, left by the wayside. It takes time for a broken heart to heal and we each find our through the pain in our own time and space. Grief is a powerful emotion and lost love is a grievous affair.

Like A Piece Of Discarded Trashsoloswan

When does a heart cease
To be broken,
When does a vow cease
To be significant.
When can you walk away
And, leave the pain behind
Like a piece of discarded trash.
There comes a point,
When enough
Is enough.
It’s time to move on;
But, you feel
You are cheated,
Of the love
You thought that was shared.
And, the emptiness hangs on,
Like a piece of gum,
Stuck upon the bottom of your shoe.
Time often becomes,
Immeasurable;
And, you wish that
It would refrain.
And, so you cling
To what was once
Engaging.
When does a heart cease
To be broken,
When does a vow cease
To be significant.
When can you walk away,
And, leave the pain behind,
Like a piece,
Of discarded trash.

Food For Thought: On Life Lessons

sandypoint2

Our path is always changing, as is the scenery. One day we find ourselves heading in a completely different direction then we had planned. What happened, we ask ourselves, how did my life change so suddenly without my approval of the plan? Lessons appear in our lives when we least expect them. These life lessons are our opportunities to rise above the adversities in our lives and become more than we were when the lessons presented themselves. How we handle those lessons determines whether we learn from the lessons or stay stuck, wallowing in despair.

Life can be harsh and life can be filled with wonder and joy. It is up to each of us to make the best of what we are presented with each and every day. Each day, I re-mind myself to find even the smallest sliver gratitude, joy and happiness. Even in the midst of the most profound grief and sorrow, we can all find something to be grateful for each day. Gratitude matters. When we strive to live in the moment we begin to transcend the difficulties placed in the midst of our path.

Daily Affirmations: Open Heart

snowy owl

Today, I re-mind myself that an open heart that is sincere and compassionate fuels my own confidence and self-esteem as well as giving comfort and solace to others. I acknowledge that my open heart may be vulnerable to grief and sadness as well as happiness and joy, however all relationships bring teachings that we may learn from them. All relationships are assignments… There is something we must learn, something we must give, something we must receive in those assignments. This is all part of the lesson.

Daily Affirmations: Relationships

I am a woman with a huge capacity to love, yet I have spent much of my life single. It seems a strange dichotomy at times, especially when the heart has been freshly wounded by a failed attempt at a relationship. What was first joy and happiness borne of finding someone special, turns to pain and grief, when the reality sets in that a relationship is not meant to be.

In these times, when the heart aches for what might have been… I re-mind myself, I am abundant, I have love. I am blessed with the knowledge that my life is filled with wonderful family and friends who love me and I love each of them. I thank the Universe for each wonderful relationship in my life and I acknowledge, I am abundant, I have love.

Daily Affirmations: The Wounded Heart

It always seems so easy to shrink away from people in our lives when we are going through emotional pain, sadness and grief, but in truth, that is the time when we most need people in our lives.

“Our griefs tempt us to isolation. Our sorrows lead us towards secrecy. The wounded heart is reluctant to show itself, fearful in its vulnerability of being wounded anew. The great mystery is that in connection lies our protection. In openness we find our shield. The soul is a field of wind-tossed grasses, touched alike by sun and snow. Sharing our trials lessens our burdens. Baring our secrets brings us solace and peace.”

“Today, I step forward out of isolation. I communicate to someone my heart’s truth. I lay aside my defenses and allow my heart to be seen unshadowed by secrets or by sorrow. As I reveal myself, I am seen and accepted; I am protected and healed.” – Julia Cameron: Transitions

Daily Affirmations: Every Little Ray of Light

saltmarshSometimes our hearts and our minds are like a cloudy sky blocking the sunshine from our lives. We’ve struggled, we’ve suffered loss, we’ve been weighted down by sadness and grief. We wait patiently the skies to open, showing the reward of the dazzling sun.

Today I re-mind myself that every little ray of light that passes through my heart and mind, creates a fertile ground for inner peace and happiness. It may be cloudy outside, but I can make the sun shine in my heart and mind, by simply choosing to give joy a space in my life today.
