R.I.P. Woodstock Legend Richie Havens

The great “folk singer and guitarist Richie Havens, who opened the 1969 Woodstock music festival, died Monday at age 72, his talent agency, the Roots Agency, reports.”

Havens career spaned decades but he is perhaps most remembered as being the opening act for Woodstock with a 2 hour performance that included “improvising the song “Freedom” based on the old spiritual “Motherless Child.””

Loreena McKennitt: Huron ‘Beltane’ Fire Dance (Live)

The festival of Beltane is celebrated on May 1 in the Celtic tradition. It is marked as the midpoint between spring and summer.  Starting the night before, fires were lit and it was a time of celebration, with dancing around the fire, invoking this as a time for renewing fertility and abundance, as crops were planted.

When I listen to Loreena McKennitt, I can envision the ancients dancing around the fire to music much like this:
