The butterfly is a symbol of transformation. Today, I re-mind myself that transformation brings both grief and happiness to our lives and each has lessons for us to learn from. Nature is a powerful teacher, showing us the transient existence of all things. Today I honor that transient existence that couples with transformation and colors our lives.

Yesterday morning, I woke up with a slight pain by my right shoulder-blade. This is a spot in my upper-back that over-work and stress usually gravitate to when I do not take enough time to stretch and release the tension created from over-work and stress. I had to forge on yesterday to finish work for two of my Fall classes and needless to say despite stretching every so often during the day, I did not manage to release that tension in my upper back.
Today, with less to accomplish and sometime to relax, I re-mind myself of this affirmation from Louise Hay: “My mind is flexible and peaceful, and so is my body.”

It is so important for each of us to take time to unwind and relax… That is my goal for this day.

There is an absolute in nature that parallels our lives. We see the cycle of life played out vividly on the landscape as it changes with seasons and weather. It is vulnerable and so are we…

It is colorful and so are we. It is with great reverence that I greet the sacred places of nature, for I know they hold the key to the answers that I seek.

The graceful Great White Egret stands poised, its gaze intent. The egret moves with purpose, it is methodical in its search for prey, as it combs the salt marsh looking for food. Its movements are dance like, it stretches, turns, crouches, flutters its wings like a dancer lifting their arms, it hops and balances on one leg, and then poises again in perfect position.

There is a strength in the Great White Egret that defies gravity as it lifts up into the air with its long, yet delicately feathered wings and flies off in search of better hunting or perhaps to return its rookery at the end of the day.
I see my own intensity in the countenance of the egret–seeking, searching, looking for tidbits of knowledge and understanding hidden in the landscape of wisdom. Nature is the heart of the seeking soul. It rejuvenates the weary wanderer in all of us.

I’ve always been partial to the low tide at the beach, for when the ocean recedes for a few hours twice daily for the low tide exposes an expansive beach that becomes a playground of earthly and aquatic delights. The landscape changes, tidal pools form, and a treasure trove of shells, stones, beach glass worn smooth, drift wood, sea weed and other offerings from the ocean appear on the sand, waiting patiently to be claimed once again by the sea, or to be pocketed by a beachcomber who will revere that object with special memories for a long time to come.
