Daily Affirmations: Life is a River

Life is a river which flows through me, washes me clean of judgment, cleansing me with the waters of compassion.” The metaphor of life being a river that flows through me has always been a metaphor that I can identify with. I grew up on the Merrimack River in Massachusetts, and despite living nearly 20 years in Los Angeles, there has always been a river flowing near to where I have lived. A river is a powerful force in my heart and mind. Especially a river close to the shore, as the Merrimack River is, here where I live in coastal Massachusetts. Not only is there a natural downstream current here, but there is also a daily tidal flow, in which the river flows upstream as the tide comes in twice daily.

I have often had the opportunity to live the by the grace of the river’s flow, experiencing the renewal of the seasons and the release of judgement with the tides. In a moment, when we least expect it, we sometimes find that the river leads that which is precious back to us, as in the course of human foibles life continues to flow as does the river.

“I honor my own integrity and the integrity of others. I am guided by love. I allow myself to feel the love that is guiding others. Like the earth, I enjoy seasons of renewal. I forgive shortcomings and failures, arrogance and shortsightedness. I allow such human foibles to be dissolved in the graceful flow of life ongoing. Life is a river which flows through me, washes me clean of judgment, cleansing me with the waters of compassion. I allow life to be both tender and clear. I choose the longer view of wisdom over the more short-lived satisfaction of being “right”.” – Julia Cameron: Heart Steps

Daily Affirmations: Believe That You Can Do It

wally-famousamos-merrimackriveratlowellsI’ve been struggling with some nagging self-doubt… This is a great reminder. We all need re-minding that we can do anything we set our minds to. Self-doubt can be a healthy way to look critically at things in our life. Wallowing in self-doubt however is not at all productive.

Today, I re-mind myself when I “believe” that I “can do it,” I set that wheels into motion to make that happen. Intent makes manifest.

Daily Affirmations: Opportunities

I have been going through a lot of changes in my life over the past couple of years, and now I find myself often questioning who I am. As the old me falls away and I am evolving, yet again, I am looking at my past for clues. I’ve missed some opportunities in my life, that I sometimes regret… Haven’t we all?

sunsetontheriver8-2_4Today I re-mind myself that everything has a time in our lives, and a missed opportunity will often rise again in another form. Life is what we make of it, each and every day. I am here to make this day matter. I am here today to grasp the opportunities that come my way and make the most of them. I am the person who can change my life.

Daily Affirmations: Every Little Ray of Light

saltmarshSometimes our hearts and our minds are like a cloudy sky blocking the sunshine from our lives. We’ve struggled, we’ve suffered loss, we’ve been weighted down by sadness and grief. We wait patiently the skies to open, showing the reward of the dazzling sun.

Today I re-mind myself that every little ray of light that passes through my heart and mind, creates a fertile ground for inner peace and happiness. It may be cloudy outside, but I can make the sun shine in my heart and mind, by simply choosing to give joy a space in my life today.

Daily Affirmations: My Life Is Like A Garden

secret gardenToday, I re-mind myself that my life is like a garden. If I want to blossom and thrive in the sun, I must carefully cultivate the aspects of my life that need tending. The garden left untended becomes unwieldy and overgrown with weeds. The life goals left untended so too, will be encompassed by weeds that overcome goals, and soon the goals will be unrecognizable. I tend carefully my goals, for they are the flowers of my life.

Daily Affirmations: Disconnect to Reconnect

caressing the light

It is not uncommon to let our busy lives get in the way of our relationships. Today, I re-mind myself that it is a choice I can make, to be present in the lives of my loved ones. This means not just showing up, but also to be fully there, unattached to outside influences, engaging in conversation, and even quite moments.

Technology has changed the way we communicate. At the very core of relationships, it is the one on one communication, the touch, the hug, the eye contact, that each of us crave and need in our lives. Sometimes we all need to step back and disengage from technology so we can truly feel and relate to others. Today I affirm that when I am with my loved ones I will disconnect so that I may reconnect.
