Daily Affirmations: Relationships

great white egret and snowy egretToday, I re-mind myself that every relationship is a conduit to learning in this life. The lessons are always plentiful, for no matter how difficult or how fruitful a relationship is I can learn from each person I know. I welcome that learning and I am grateful for the opportunity to grow everyday through each relationship that comes my way.

Quote of the Day: Tolkien

tolkien-meme“Not all those who wander are lost” is a line in the poem, ‘All that is gold does not glitter,’ in J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic trilogy, The Lord of the Rings:

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king

Tolkien was one of my favorite authors in my youth, when I was discovering my love for the written word.

Sergei Polunin Dances to Hozier’s ‘Take Me To Church’

This last Sunday, Annie Lennox and Hozier wowed the Grammy audience performing Hozier‘s breakout hit ‘Take Me To Church’ coupled with Annie Lennox singing Screamin Jay Hawkins ‘I Put a Spell On You,’ which is on her latest CD, Nostalgia.

Hozier and Lennox teaming was all the rage on the internet, managing to go viral very quickly on social media websites, Twitter and Facebook. That was where I first saw it, as I don’t have cable. The short finale clip of Annie Lennox was what drew me to find a video of the full performance, and when I did, I discovered Hozier. I was quickly drawn into the lyrics and arrangement of ‘Take To Me To Church,’ and Hozier’s performance.

The latest mashup of Hozier’s brilliant song, ‘Take Me To Church’ is this incredible dance performance by Russian ballet dancer, Sergei Polunin.

Daily Affirmations: Heed the Calling

Today, I re-mind myself that there is no right time that a certain calling in life will arise. We may feel as though we missed our connection some time ago, that we passed up our chances. However, when something is meant to be, the calling will arise again, and again until we embark on the path. That calling must be answered. Fears must be cast aside. The path must be followed. This is learning, this is growing, this is expanding the possibility of who we are in the world. We must heed the calling. Only then can we fly…

Daily Affirmations: Letting Go

storm sandy pointIt is very difficult sometimes to let go. We hold on to many issues and past transgressions in our lives, that serve only to keep storms brewing in our minds. And then, in our moments of weakness, those things of the past creep into the framework of our mind and the storm clouds blow in.

Today, I re-mind myself that the process of letting going is an ongoing practice, and forgiveness is a major part of that process. Each time I begin to think of the past and lay blame, I recognize that in order to let go, I must forgive all, including myself, for the past that did not go as I had hoped it would. The past is past. We can not change that. We can in the present work daily on letting go and forgiveness. If we don’t, we keep storms brewing in our hearts and minds.
