Reflections: Communication

Sometimes the lines of communication between people get blurred. In reflection we can find many reasons for communication to become blurred, but in soul-searching, we weed through those reasons and ask ourselves the questions of why and what forms our reasoning in how we feel about and relate to other people.

It is there in the reflection that we begin to see things clearly, if we take the time to listen to heart and remove judgment from our mind. It can be easy to judge others, however, learning to accept others for who they are, may not always come so easily to some of us.

Many years ago when I began to study A Course In Miracles, I learned one of the greatest lessons in my life… How a person shows up in my life, who they are in my world, it was matters most. Anything peripheral to that, is not for me to judge.

Food For Thought: Acceptance

I strive each day to practice acceptance of all things and all people in my life, no matter how difficult it may be in some trying circumstances. As in all things in life, some days are easier than others…

Acceptance requires tolerance, understanding, compassion and empathy. To be accepting of others, I know must be tolerant of their differences in thoughts and beliefs.

Acceptance is in fact, key to love and love heals all…

In this time when so many people are struggling with the ongoing economic recession, people find they need the help of others in order to stay afloat. Like the dories pictured above, the interconnection among family and friends helps to hold people up in tough times. This too is true when we are going through emotional pain and loss. No one struggling can or should go it alone. Everyone needs someone from time to time, even the  most solitary among us… Make it point to stay connected. Relationships are vital in our interconnected world.

Food For Thought: Communication

I feel as though people do not always take the time to fully communicate with each other. Is it because we are afraid to hear what someone else has to say? Is it because we are afraid to expose our vulnerable places and spaces to others? When we communicate with loved ones, we find communion…

“Communion is the root word in communication, reminding us that to communicate with another  person isn’t to pass on information.” ~ Deepak Chopra: The Path to Love

Daily Affirmations: Relationships

Today, I re-mind myself that all relationships are an opportunity to learn and grow. Sometimes, we don’t understand why relationships change their form, and we feel saddened and disappointed when a shift occurs that doesn’t meet our expectations of that relationship. It is difficult to stay grounded in times of uncertainity with those we care for. In those times, I re-mind myself to release my expectations, let go of my hopes and find acceptance for the new form that a relationship may take. Nothing stays the same, including our relationships with others.  ~ Pamela Leavey

Sanctuary

They were two friends who had known each other for four years and yet they were proverbial strangers. On the final day of summer, they prepared to ride out together on his highly polished black and chrome Harley Davidson towards the verdant coast of Cape Ann, to the port of Gloucester, Massachusetts. There were billowy cumulus clouds in the sky but still, the sun was shining fiercely. Even with the indulgent end of summer wind that bore the perception of fall in its flurries, it was the epitome of the perfect day for riding. She swung her right leg up over the seat, positioned her left foot on the foot peg and slid onto the back of his bike. Once positioned comfortably on the back seat of the rumbling Harley, he instinctively took his cue that she was ready to roll and they roared off in search of some succor for their solitary souls.

As they rode along the winding road to Gloucester, the lush green landscape showed an indication of the ambiance of fall colors to arise as the temperatures shifted with the season. Yes, the day was already holding the promise of fulfillment. Both of them appeared to be drinking in the scenery as though it were a snifter of fine cognac, the taste of which rolled onto their taste buds, washed down their throats and warmed their souls. Over the thunderous roar of the Harley engine, they conversed intermittently of the splendor of the diverse terrain where they dwelt. (more…)
