Spring

By Edna St. Vincent Millay 1892–1950

To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
April
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.

Daily Affirmations: Spring

In the Spring we see everything as fresh and new… Our lives are constantly changing like the seasons, and today as Spring approaches I re-mind myself of all the wondrous possibilities that are blossoming in my life like the Spring flowers. ~~ Pamela J. Leavey

Food For Thought: Patience

Awesome words of wisdom from His Holiness…

The practice of patience protects us from losing our composure. In doing that it enables us to exercise discernment, even in the heat of difficult situations. It gives us inner space. And within that space we gain a degree of self-control, which allows us to respond to situations in an appropriate and compassionate manner rather than being driven by our anger and irritation. ~~ His Holiness The Dalai Lama
