Food For Thought from Huxley and God

“Graces are the free gifts of help bestowed by God upon each one of us, in order that we may be assisted to achieve our final end and purpose; namely, unitive knowledge of divine reality.” ~~ Aldous Huxley: Huxley and God, Essays

Food For Thought: Alone

I’ve been living alone for the past few months, enjoying it more now that I am no longer constrained by a cast on my right foot. In living alone, I have found, as Krishnamurti notes, a “greater awareness for self-discovery”.

“There is no such thing as living alone, for all living is relationship; but to live without direct relationship demands high intelligence, a swifter and greater awareness for self-discovery.” ~ J. Krishnamurti

Food For Thought: Peace, Love, Joy

Food For Thought…

“Peace, love, joy – these, according to St. Paul, are the three fruits of the spirit. They correspond very closely to the three essential attributes of God, as summarized in the Indian formula, sat, chit, ananda – being, knowledge, bliss. Peace is the manifestation of unified being. Love is the mode of divine knowledge. And bliss, the concomitant of perfection, is the same as joy.”  – Aldous Huxley: Huxley and God: Essays on Religious Experience

Food For Thought: Compassion and Emptiness

I ran across this quote the other day and found there was so much to ponder…

Compassion and emptiness are two sides of the same coin.  Don’t relax your grip on compassion, and don’t let emptiness become nihilistic nothingness.  To cultivate these two in union is very important. — Rinchen Tashi of Gyalzang

Life is always such a balancing act.

Food For Thought: Relationships

When we give our heart to someone, we never expect it to get trounced on.

Marianne Williamson says in A Return To Love:

“Love is a participatory emotion.”

It takes two people to participate however… and if one isn’t showing up in that relationship… Well, it wasn’t love to begin with, was it?

Food For Thought: Self-importance

Mixing some serious food for thought with some humor today…

“Self-importance is our greatest enemy. Think about it – what weakens us is feeling offended by the deeds and misdeeds of our fellowmen. Our self-importance requires that we spend most of our lives offended by someone.” ~~ Carlos Castaneda
