Daily Affirmations: Fear

“Today, I say a silent prayer for those who are compelled by fear. I recognize that fear and attack are a cry for love. I open my arms and heart to those who are afraid to love. I pray that all fear will one day be replaced with love in all hearts, minds and souls.” – Pamela J. Leavey

Clapton & Company: Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad

There’s a fabulous line up of great musicians (including Derek Trucks and Doyle Bramhall II) on the stage with Eric Clapton for this version of “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad” from the Crossroads 2007 Benefit:

It’s the perrenial question isn’t it, when the heart gets broken.

Food For Thought… On this Valentine’s Eve, there are people asking this question… May they all be blessed with the light of love tomorrow.

The Dark Nights Of The Soul

I have alluded here from time to time that I have been on a path filled with struggles in recent weeks. It has been a time that many would call, the dark nights of the soul, referring to a time in one’s life when spiritual practice and discipline suddenly loses all it’s experiential value.

This particular journey through the dark nights of the soul started for me when I had what then seemed like a minor fall in my driveway, on the last full moon, January 8 ~ the Wolf Moon.

That fall however, coupled with other concurring trials and tribulations, has managed to turn my world upside down and leave my soul weary and wondering. (more…)

On The Parker River Path

It’s been three and a half weeks since I last walked On The Parker River Path. The beaver dam pictured above was a familiar sight as we hiked Hellcat Swamp at the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge.

I learned while walking the Parker River Path to watch for nature’s changes each hike, as nature’s changes were life’s changes.

Sometimes we build a dam around us for protection. Sometimes we soar over the trees filled with joy. There are days when our lives are filled with turbulent winds and days when we light up like the sun.

I keep the lessons of the Parker River Path close to my heart right now, until I can walk that path again. The lessons of the Parker River Path give me faith that the Great Mother Goddess is always with us. She is the primal heartbeat within us all.

Food For Thought

Via His Holiness The Dalai Lama on Facebook…

“Generosity is the most natural outward expression of an inner attitude of compassion and loving-kindness. When one desires to alleviate the suffering of others and to promote their well-being, then generosity – in action, word, and thought – is this desire put into practice. It is important to recognize the “generosity” here refers not just to giving in a material sense, but to generosity of the heart.”

We so often equate generosity with a monetary or material worth, but in truth a single smile, a good thought towards someone, a visit, time spent with a loved one who is ailing, all of these things are generosity in action.

Food For Thought

“Let us cultivate love and compassion, both of which give life true meaning. This is the religion I preach. It is simple. Its temple is the heart. Its teaching is love and compassion. Its moral values are loving and respecting others, whoever they may be. Whether one is a lay person or a monastic, we have no other option if we wish to survive in this world.” ~~ The Dalai Lama
