Opinion: Seniors and Housing Insecurity

I ran across a story on Facebook this afternoon that I find very troubling on a very personal level: Homelessness Among the Elderly Expected to Triple in 10 Years .

The number of elderly individuals experiencing homelessness is rising. In the Annual Homeless Assessment Report, released by HUD, the number of elderly individuals experiencing sheltered homelessness nearly doubled from 4.1 percent in 2007 to 8 percent in 2017. It’s not slowing down, either. This population is expected to triple over the next decade.

new study out of UCSF showed that almost half of all elderly homeless people became homeless after age 50. These statistics tells us that whatever the problem is, it’s related to age. The question we need to ask ourselves is, why are the elderly falling through the cracks?

Food For Thought: Anger

Life is short and life is precious. I will never, ever understand why some people choose to live a life filled with anger and hatred.

We’ve all known these people, the ones who go to great lengths to foist their anger and hatred on others, while claiming when you might call them on it, that you are the angry person. Anger breeds anger, by its very energy emitted by others; it is a contagious, toxic thought form that permeates people and relationships, replacing loving thought with angry thought, filling up light filled spaces with darkness.

My experience with angry people is that that they carry baggage from the past that they can’t seem to let go of, even when they claim they have.

Forgiveness is the antidote to anger. Love is the antidote to fear. Be kind to one another… It is the root of compassion and the foundation of love for all beings.

Food for Thought: On Being Busy

Saying I am “Busy,” can signal the need to avoid something unpleasant.

Many people use “busy” as their catch all buzz word to hide their preference to not respond or discuss something that might make them feel uncomfortable. I know I have used it myself on more than one occasion. It is the perfect excuse to get out of anything we don’t want to do.

But using that “busy” excuse gives rise to beg these questions: (more…)

Food for Thought: Open the Door

You need to open the door to see what is inside…

Lift Latch

That is all part of going with the flow. Life happens. Be open. Be in the moment.

You have the power to manifest what you desire in life. Intent makes manifest.

Food for Thought: A Narrow Path

maudslay footbridge

We are all walking a fine line sometimes on a narrow path, with bridges to cross and hills to climb. Our struggle is to meet that path with anticipation that it will lead us in the right direction.

But, wait… What if that path leads us astray?

What if we read the signs wrong and we traveled down the road, and found ourselves lost?

There are no sureties in life. There is only moving forward on the narrow path and trusting it will lead us in the right direction.

Daily Affirmations: I Am Awesome

Today, I will practice the “I Am Awesome” principle. Each time I am asked how I am, I will reply, “I Am Awesome!” With each reply, I will feel the contagion of being Awesome grow with in my heart and mind for intent makes manifest. With each opportunity I have to respond to the question, “How are you,” I have the opportunity to share the “I Am Awesome” principle, so that others may feel the contagion as well. Awesome is a state of mind, it is a choice, like happiness.

When I choose to be Awesome, I choose to be more than happy, I choose to be empowered by my own will. When I choose to be awesome, I choose to see things through wonder, amazement and I choose to make self-confidence a guiding essence of my life, because I understand the power of intent. The question begs the answer, “Why would I choose to be anything less than Awesome, each and every day?” That I choose to be Awesome, makes it so. And so it is… Intent makes manifest.
